Hjorring - Thomas Merchman Bishop
Nov 06 2008We started at 5 in the morning in the Faroe Islands (well actually I got up at 4 because I forgot to change my clock!) A quick breakfast and then an hours coach trip to the airport in the pitch black, there's not a lot of light pollution in the Faroes although I also think we spent most of the drive in a low cloud as well! We then flew back to Copenhagen and then had 15 minutes to get on an internal flight to Aalborg where we jumped on a tour bus a found some relative comfort compared to the plane seats!
On arrival to the venue there was discussion as to whether the band had been there before it would appear that they have been to so many places around the globe now that God is even resending them to some places for another encore!
They were playing in a large sports hall with a fantastic stage which could hold around 1200. As the people arrived I got chatting with some of the organisers and they told me that they were using the gig as part of their outreach to the city to try and encourage more teenagers into the church and sure enough you could sense that this was a totally new experience to many of them who had no idea of what the next two hours would have in store for them!
As the band came out the Delirious enthusiasts rushed to the front and the music played, as the night went on more and more of the newcomers got into the music and there was an amazing moment where Martin called one of them up from the back as he was holding up his lighter to the music, as Mattheus joined they guys on stage Martin prayed that the fire of God would come upon him and I got the impression this was a totally new experience for him, from my position at the back I watched him back to his seat and it seemed to have had a real affect on him and his friends as they all started to really join in with the worship.
The guys finished with a great trio of songs from the new album and sent everyone home having experienced an awesome night of worship and perhaps even wonder of what it means to know and love the living God.
Roll on Sweden.....
