Bogota - Martin Smith
Sep 25 2008
Today we were privileged to be in Colombia. We have made some great friends here and it feels like a home from home. It's amazing how you can go to the other side of the world and find people who you can call 'family'. I enjoy the company of older, 'wiser' people and I've found a friend in Pastor Cesar who runs the church here with 300000 people, yes that's 5 noughts after the 3. That's like most of West Sussex going to his church every Sunday!

Despite many assassination attempts, a wife with a political career and 4 daughters, they have just adopted a little Colombian boy named Mathias whilst firmly in their 50's. To be a hero you have to be a hero in private, where things matter the most and it's my priviledge to have observed a man who is a true vanguard of the faith.

We were here to record a DVD, not the most obvious place to record but VERY exciting. We took to the stage and for the next 2 hours were carried by the electricity of the people. If you want to see passion, then come to Bogota, the people here make me feel like I live life in black and white compared to their vibrancy and techni-coloured spirituality.

I am always challenged when I see people rise above their economic and sociological problems. That's what's cool about this thing called church, it is there to be a catalyst for revolutions. Revolutions of the heart and revolutions in the culture.

I am sure of the fact that 2 are better than one, imagine 300 thousand better than 2 and you have holy fireworks. Fireworks planted in the very corridors of power, a holy threat that if society doesn't change there will be a 'church off'. A boxing match in the spirit between a radical people movement and a failing governmental system.

Bogota is full of fireworks and tonight we just saw another 10 thousand go off.
